2026 Term 3 Week 7 4 Sept 2026
Upcoming Events
From the Principal
Dear Lindisfarne Parents and Guardians,
As we move further into Term 3, this week has reflected the breadth of school life at Lindisfarne. From important conversations around cybersecurity and governance to public speaking, Rock and Roll, and welcoming colleagues from across our network of Anglican schools, there has been a great deal happening across our campuses.
We began the week by welcoming representatives from Independent Schools NSW (ISNSW) to work with key members of our staff through a Cybersecurity Tabletop Exercise. As schools increasingly operate within a complex digital environment, ensuring we have robust systems, strong awareness and well-practised responses to potential cyber incidents is essential. The session provided an opportunity to test our preparedness, work through realistic scenarios and further strengthen our understanding of contemporary cybersecurity risks.
On Tuesday morning, our School Council met for its Term 3 meeting. Our School Council plays an important role in the governance and strategic direction of Lindisfarne, and I remain grateful for the expertise, commitment and considerable time our School Council members give to the School on a voluntary basis each year. These meetings provide an important opportunity to consider the priorities, opportunities, and challenges before us as we continue to plan thoughtfully for Lindisfarne’s future.
There was certainly a change of pace on Wednesday afternoon with the culmination of our annual Year 10 PDHPE Rock and Roll unit. For more than 20 years, this event has remained one of the Lindisfarne traditions that brings enormous energy and enjoyment to the School. It takes courage to step outside your comfort zone, learn something completely different and then perform in front of your peers, and our Year 10 students embraced the challenge brilliantly. There was plenty of enthusiasm, laughter and teamwork on display, and it was uplifting to see students supporting one another and simply enjoying being part of something together.
On Wednesday evening, I also had the pleasure of attending another important Lindisfarne tradition, our Public Speaking Finals. The standard this year was exceptional. Speaking confidently before an audience is an important skill, and our finalists demonstrated confidence, composure and an impressive ability to develop ideas, communicate with purpose and engage the audience. Congratulations to all of our finalists and to the staff who have encouraged and supported our students throughout the competition.
Yesterday and today, Lindisfarne has had the privilege of hosting the Term 3 Anglican Schools Commission and Diocesan Schools Network meetings. We welcomed Bishop Murray, members of the Schools Commission, together with Chairs of School Councils, Principals, Business Managers, Chaplains, and First Nations Cultural Coordinators from our fellow Diocesan schools: Emmanuel Anglican College, Bishop Druitt College, Clarence Valley Anglican School, and St Columba Anglican School.
It has been an excellent two days of conversation, collaboration and fellowship. While each of our schools serves its own unique community, we are united by a shared Anglican identity and a commitment to providing young people with an education grounded in faith, excellence, service, compassion and purpose. Opportunities such as these allow us to learn from one another, share challenges and ideas, and consider how we can continue strengthening education in the Anglican Schools across the Diocese of Grafton. It has been a pleasure to welcome our colleagues to Lindisfarne and to showcase our School and community.
This Sunday is Father’s Day, and I extend my warmest wishes to all of the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, carers and father-figures who play such an important role in the lives of our young people. The guidance, encouragement, time and example you provide have an impact that often extends far beyond what you may realise.
I am also mindful that Father’s Day can bring mixed emotions for many within our community, particularly those remembering a father or loved one who is no longer with them. Whatever this Sunday looks like for your family, I hope there is an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, remember and be grateful for the special people who have shaped our lives.
Fittingly, on Sunday we will also gather for our next Spiritual Gym in the Mahers Lane Chapel. Refreshments will be available from 4.30 pm, with the service running from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Spiritual Gym provides a relaxed and welcoming opportunity for our School community to come together in faith and fellowship, and all members of the Lindisfarne community are warmly invited to join us. Bishop Murray will be joining us for the Spiritual Gym family service on Sunday.
As another full week draws to a close, I thank our students and staff for the energy they bring to all aspects of School life, and our families for your ongoing partnership and support.
Warm regards,
Stuart Marquardt

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,
In my last article I wrote about the symbolism, significance and purpose of the open book (The Bible) in the middle of our School Crest.
In this article I would like to draw your attention to one of the other symbols on our School Crest – The Torch.
Now of course, the purpose of a torch is to provide light in the darkness.
This simple fact is of great significance in the Bible.
So much so, that light dispelling the darkness is the very first act of creation in Genesis 1, much like how the Big Bang sparked the beginning of the Universe.
Even the very first words spoken by God in all of Scripture are “Let there be light,” followed by God’s affirmation that light is good (Genesis 1:3-4).
This connection between God’s Word and light is an important Biblical theme.
The Psalmist acknowledges to God that “your word is a lamp for my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
The Apostle Peter elaborates on this by stating “we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).
The Prologue to John’s Gospel, echoing the creation account of Genesis 1, says of Jesus – The Word made flesh – that ‘In him was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’ (John 1:4-5).
Later on in John’s Gospel, in one of Jesus’ 7 great ‘I Am’ statements, he says, “I am the light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
It is in this light (excuse the pun) that we are to understand Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount that say we can all be the light of the world (Matthew 8:14).
This means that as followers of Jesus we can all be beacons of light.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines beacon, ‘as a source of light or inspiration.’
A beacon therefore, is a person who shines his or her light, and in turn, inspires, guides, and brings hope to others.
It is this perspective which inspired Marianne Williamson to write:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
And so, as is our Lindisfarne motto: Let your light shine!
Blessings,
Reverend Lyndon

Health Updates
We have cases of Influenza in our school community.
We would like to remind everyone of the school's expectations around sickness. Please stay home if you are unwell. If students have flu-like symptoms at school, they will be asked to go home immediately. Anyone with flu-like symptoms must stay home until symptoms reside. If you have a fever you must wait 24hours before returning to school.
The NSW public health department is reminding us all that we are coming into the worst part of the influenza season and that the flu vaccination is an effective strategy against managing influenza and is available at your local chemist or general practitioner. Attached is the NSW Public Health Influenza fact sheet.

Warmer Weather & School Hats
With the warmer weather returning, this is a timely reminder that school hats are a mandatory part of our uniform and are essential for helping us keep students sun safe.
Students are required to wear their school hat when playing outdoors, including sport and PE.
Please take a moment to check that your child has their school hat ready for the warmer months ahead. Clearly labelling hats with your child’s name also helps us return any that find their way to our lost property!
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support in keeping our school community happy, healthy and connected. We are looking forward to another wonderful week ahead!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Celebrating Father’s Day at Preschool
Our Father’s Day mornings on Tuesday and Wednesday were a wonderful celebration of the special dads and father figures in our Preschool community. It was lovely to see so many dads join us and spend quality time with their children.

There was plenty of fun to be had, with families enjoying putt-putt, relaxing massages, sharing stories, making paper aeroplanes, and sitting together for a delicious morning tea. The children were so proud and excited to welcome their dads into Preschool and share these special experiences with them.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make both mornings so memorable. We wish all our wonderful dads and father figures a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday!

Students attending interviews are asked to wear their full formal School uniform.
Public Speaking Competition
Wednesday evening saw the finals of our Public Speaking Competition held in the Senior Centre. It was wonderful to see our students step forward and have the confidence to share their ideas with an audience. Congratulations to all of our finalists on reaching this stage of the competition and representing their year groups so well.
Book Character Parade
On Friday, Mahers Lane celebrated our 2026 Book Character Parade in Ngahriyah. This year’s theme, Symphony of Stories, provides plenty of inspiration, and we enjoyed seeing the characters and stories our students chose to bring to life.
The parade is always a great celebration of books and reading across the campus and was a wonderful way to finish the week.
Father’s Day
With Father’s Day this Sunday, I’d like to wish all of the fathers, grandfathers and other important people in the lives of our Middle School students a very happy Father’s Day.
We know that Father’s Day looks different for every family, and we think of all those who hold a special place in the lives and hearts of our students.
I hope everyone enjoys a lovely Sunday with family and those important to them.

Unforgettable Adventures at the Lake Ainsworth Year 5 Camp
Last week, our Year 5 students packed their bags and headed off to Lake Ainsworth for their much-anticipated school camp. To say it was a success would be an understatement—the children had an absolute blast!
Throughout the camp, students immersed themselves in an action-packed schedule featuring:
Water Sports: Sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, and canoeing
Target & Outdoor Skills: Archery, archery tag, fire-making, and damper cooking
Teamwork: Collaborative outdoor challenges and problem-solving games
While every activity brought its own excitement, sailing and stand-up paddleboarding were the undisputed favorites. Standing on the lake's edge, teachers were treated to a chorus of squeals, laughter, and splashing. The sheer joy emanating from the water was unforgettable—every single child was truly living their best life.
Beyond the outdoor activities, camp proved to be a powerful milestone for personal growth. Students stepped out of their comfort zones to achieve remarkable personal goals:
Building Connections: Forming new friendships and strengthening existing bonds
Growing Confidence: Trusting their own abilities through physical challenges
Overcoming Obstacles: Staying away from home for the very first time and conquering personal fears
Whether conquering the water, mastering a new skill, or simply spending their first night away from home, every child stepped up. We could not be prouder of Year 5!

Spelling Bee
This week we saw the first of Two Grandfinals in our Term 3 House challenge “ The Spelling Bee”. We had wonderful engagement from all Tutors and Homeroons which culminated in Grade and House finalists. The selected students then competed for a spot in the Middle School Grand Final.
Proudly representing on stage last week were
From Year 5 and St Margaret House- Toby Fisher
From Year 6 and St Barnabas House -Chloe Kung
From Year 7 and St Hilda House- Kahlia Bosward
From Year 8 and St Hilda House- Mia Bradbrook

Our Middle School captains Chloe Nagle and Grace Martin ran the event, challenging students to spell the word correctly before moving through to the next rounds. The audience was held captive as the spelling of each word was displayed across the stage and they waited quietly to see if the participant spelt the word correctly. Students got through 5 rounds of words before Mia Bradbrook was crowned our 2026 Spelling Bee champion, earning valuable House points for St Hilda house.

The students are to be commended for their involvement in this challenge. It isn't easy spelling in front of an audience of 700 students. We look forward to more challenges across the school as we continue to build our House Culture.
A huge congratulations to all of our finalists, and especially to Mia on her fantastic achievement!

Senior School
From the Head of Senior School
Gratitude is an important quality, but it is not always an easy one to develop. This is true for young people, but I suspect it is equally true for adults. We can become so accustomed to the safety and stability of our daily lives that we forget these things are not guaranteed.
The flooding across Nepal and Tibet should give us pause. The loss of life has been devastating - thousands of people remain missing, and entire communities have been displaced. Families are facing unimaginable grief and uncertainty, with many having lost their homes, their livelihoods and the people they love.
Australia is certainly not immune from natural disasters or hardship. Many communities in our own country understand all too well the devastation caused by floods, fires and cyclones. Even so, most of us are fortunate to go about our daily lives with a strong sense of safety. We arrive at school expecting our classrooms to be there, return home believing our families will be safe and make plans for the future with reasonable confidence. These are privileges we can easily take for granted.
Gratitude should never be about feeling guilty for the safety or opportunities we have. Rather, it should help us notice them and encourage us to respond when others are suffering. This is where our school values of Compassion, Wisdom and Respect become more than words.
Schools have an important role to play in helping young people look beyond themselves and their immediate surroundings. As a Round Square school, we seek to broaden our students’ understanding of the world and their place within it. Education is about more than academic achievement; it should help young people recognise their capacity to contribute and develop the courage to act. Time and again, our students show us that they are capable of remarkable things when given a meaningful opportunity to help.
Next Wednesday, our School will hold a Mufti Day to raise funds for those affected by the disaster in Nepal and Tibet. Students and staff are encouraged to wear bright colours as a symbol of hope and, most importantly, to bring a gold coin donation. The money raised will be directed towards supporting the people and communities affected.
One gold coin may seem like a small gesture. Across our whole school, however, those small gestures can become something significant. This is our opportunity to turn gratitude into action and compassion into practical support for people facing circumstances we can scarcely imagine.

Head of Senior School
Wellbeing Week is Here!
Wellbeing Week is here next week, and across Years 5–12 we have a variety of activities planned for students to enjoy and participate in.
Recognising that wellbeing is about much more than simply “being fit” is incredibly important. To truly thrive, we need to nurture all elements of our wellbeing: physical, social, emotional, spiritual and cultural. They won’t always be perfectly balanced, and it is completely normal for some areas to dip at different times. What is important is recognising this and taking steps to restore and strengthen the areas that need attention.

Throughout the week, students will have opportunities to be active through touch and volleyball, practise mindfulness through journaling and yoga, connect with others at the photo booth, express gratitude at our Gratitude Wall and nurture their spiritual wellbeing through Christian Meditation.
Mufti Day is Back!
A highlight this year will be the return of Mufti Day! This is something our students have certainly missed, and we are excited to bring it back as part of Wellbeing Week.
However, for Mufti Day to continue to be something we can offer, everyone needs to get on board. We ask that all students make a contribution to support those impacted by the devastating floods in Nepal and Tibet, including the 40 Australians who remain unaccounted for.
The theme is BRIGHT COLOURS, so leave the black and white at home and get creative with your brightest outfit!
As always, free dress comes with a few expectations:
Normal school expectations regarding hair, makeup and jewellery still apply.
Shoes must be fully enclosed.
No singlets, crop tops or midriff-baring clothing.
Shorts, skirts and leggings must be an appropriate length.
Clothing must be suitable for a school environment.
It’s free dress, but not free from expectations! We look forward to seeing everyone embrace the colour, have some fun and, most importantly, use the day to support a worthwhile cause.

From the Sports Desk
I enjoyed getting around the grounds this week, namely to National All Schools Netball, and QLD All Schools Rugby 7’s. Thanks to all the coaches and staff that help drive these programs, the games that I saw were certainly high quality.
Our last Integrated Sports nomination for 2026 was completed this week. Quite surreal how quickly time flies by, with deep analysis and planning now drilling down to the granular level for the 2027 calendar year.
Peak hour representative sport scheduling is now officially behind us for this year, albeit still LOTS to happen in Touch Football, Basketball and Volleyball space. Less so however in other core sports such as Football, Rugby, AFL and Netball.
The Lindisfarne Tennis Championships sign-ups closed yesterday. We will be collating these entries, and making contact with athlete registrations within the next week.
Week 8 Key Dates:
Wednesday, 9 September: Integrated Sports Selections close at 8.00 am

Music
HSC Music Showcase
Last week, the Chapel was transformed as our Year 12 music students presented their HSC Music Showcase to a packed house. With the overarching theme of Reach for the Stars, the evening was a joyful celebration of their musical achievements and a final preparation for HSC music exams next month. Each performance demonstrated exceptional depth and maturity, as the audience was taken on a journey through our students’ HSC repertoire in front of a star-studded backdrop.
We wish our HSC Music students all the very best for their upcoming performance exams, and congratulate you all on a fantastic evening of entertainment.

HICES Music Festival
Last month, a group of Lindisfarne music students travelled to Sydney to participate in the 2026 HICES Music Festival. As part of the Jazz Academy, the students had the well-received opportunity to work with past Lindisfarne Performing Arts director, Mr Todd Hardy.
The tour culminated in two performances - a Jazz Academy concert at the Darling Quarter Theatre, and a full Festival performance held at the beautiful Sydney Town Hall. A special thank you to Mr Marquardt for attending the Festival performance and supporting our students as they represented Lindisfarne with confidence and professionalism.
Mrs Stephanie Palmer and I accompanied our students, and we extend our thanks to these teachers for supporting our musicians through this exciting trip. Our students found it to be very rewarding and enriching, and they are excited to bring their experiences back to benefit our Lindisfarne ensembles.

“Symphony of Stories” – Book Week 2026
What a wonderful theme “Symphony of Stories” has been for celebrating the joy and magic of reading!
Reading takes us on journeys of imagination and exploration. It allows us to lose ourselves in a wonderful story, escape into another world, and enjoy those precious moments of quiet “me” time. Like music, a great book can stir our emotions, transport us somewhere new and stay with us long after the final page.
Our Emoji Bookweek Quiz was a hit. Well done to AN5 and 6F, they won a bag of delectable delights to share.

As a special celebration of our “Symphony”, our talented Music students joined us in the Library each Friday throughout August to share their musical talents with other students. Their performances created a wonderful atmosphere and added another beautiful dimension to our Book Week celebrations.
A heartfelt thank you goes to these wonderful students for generously giving their time and sharing their talents with us. Their contribution truly helped bring our “Symphony of Stories” to life.
There is so much joy to be found in reading — a joy we should never give up on.
Yours in the written word.

Library Manager
